Primitive Rug Hooking

Primitive rug hooking is an old art form that originated in the 1800s. The women would cut old wool clothing into 1/4" strips to hook into used burlap potato sacks, making rugs and mats. Today we use the same idea but on softer backing called "monks cloth" or on linen. Instructor Janet Venne will teach you this art using recycled wool -- some hand-dyed and some mill-dyed. You can view the instructor's designs on her website - Hook What I Can Do . During class you will learn how to rug hook by making four different coasters similar to the winter pictures shown above right.

Included in the materials fee are patterns, wool, instructions and hook to take home with you. Instructor will provide hoops for use during class time; if you don't have hoops at home you can purchase separately from instructor.
